Pokud má být listina vydaná v USA předložena úřadu v České republice (např. matričnímu úřadu), musí být opatřena ověřovací doložkou tzv. apostilou. V jednotlivých amerických státech apostilu obvykle vydávají Department of State nebo Secretary of State. Další úřady, které vydávají apostilu lze najít na webové stránce Haagské konference mezinárodního práva soukromého.
Apostila obsahuje nadpis APOSTILLE a odkaz na Úmluvu o zrušení požadavku ověřování cizích veřejných listin, přijatou v Haagu dne 5. října 1961 (Convention de La Haye du 5 Octobre 1961).

V současné době vydává apostilu a uznává veřejné listiny cizích zemí opatřené apostilou téměř 90 zemí světa.

Žádost můžete zaslat také centrálnímu registru na adrese: New York State Department of Health, Certification Unit, Vital Records Section, P.O.Box 2602, Albany, NY 12220-2602. Dokument musí být poté předložen k ověření okresnímu tajemníkovi (County Clerk) v okresu, kde došlo k matriční události. Poté dokument můžete nechat ověřit apostilní doložkou u výše uvedeného úřadu.

Tento dokument předložte okresnímu tajemníkovi (County Clerk), který ověří podpis městského úředníka, který se nachází na “Letter of Exemplification”. Ověření u okresního tajemníka stojí 3 USD. Teprve poté ověří Ministerstvo zahraničí dokument apostilní doložkou (cena 10 USD).

Pozn: ODDACÍ LISTY: Nejprve si požádejte o tzv. dlouhou certifikovanou verzi s originálním podpisem městského úředníka na matričním úřadu: NYC Marriage Bureau, Municipal Center, 1 Centre Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10007. Tento dokument předložte okresnímu tajemníkovi (Country Clerk), který ověří podpis městského úředníka, který se nachází na oddacím listu. Ověření apostilní doložkou je totožné.
